Winter Safety

Posted:January 10, 2017

It’s been three weeks since the start of winter. Today, many parts of the US are experiencing cold spells where the temperature stays well below freezing throughout the day.

Even parts of Florida were not immune to the cold. This past weekend it was below 40 degrees in Orlando.

Icy driveways and sidewalks are a hazard each winter, as are snow covered roads once you’re in the car and driving. It’s important to have a pair of shoes or boots with non-skid soles. Drivers of all ages should also avoid the road during snowstorms.

When it’s best to stay indoors during a snowstorm or cold spell, some may benefit from taking a vitamin D supplement. Your body naturally produces vitamin D, but only when UV rays from the sun strike your skin. December 21 was the shortest day of the year, so days are now getting longer until June 21 – the first day of summer.
