It’s officially fall, which means it’s time for those countless healthcare mailings and advertisements directed at the Medicare population. As most of you know, the reason for this is because Medicare open enrollment season is upon us. The Medicare open enrollment period for 2016 will take place October 15th through December 7th.
During this period, all people with Medicare are able to change their Medicare health plans (Medicare Advantage) and prescription drug coverage (Part D) for the following year. It is important to review the material that your current plan sends you, like the “Evidence of Coverage” and “Annual Notice of Change”. You should make sure your plan will meet your needs for the following year. If you are satisfied with your current plan, then you do not need to take any action during this period. If you are not satisfied with your current plan, the open enrollment period is the perfect time to shop around.
