The Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act

Posted:November 21, 2016

Changes to Medicare by The Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act (passed by Congress in April 2015) will start in 2019. These changes include a new provider reimbursement system based on quality over quantity.

Provider quality reports will be available on Medicare’s website Physician Compare. Kaiser Health News calls the reports a “Grade Point Average (GPA) based on four categories: quality-of-care; practice improvement; adoption and use of electronic health records; and cost.” However, Kaiser Health News also reported that doctors with small, independent practices are concerned about the new payment system.

2019 is the target date for The Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act’s implementation, but the first quality reports will be based on reporting that starts next year.
